1.) A fine reliable tool

This chipper is a great tool for yard clean up. It starts reliably and easily every time. I have had this machine for 4 years and it is great. You do have to be prepare limbs and branches for shredding, cutting down pieces that have major curves into shorter lengths
If you think you can use it like the professionals use their $12,000 machines that are towed behind a truck you will be disappointed.
One other tip, make sure everything in the chute is ground thru before turning off the machine. Otherwise, a hunk of wood will wedge into the cutting knives and prevent the engine from turning over when you pull the starter rope.
2.) Powerful and Reliable

I bought this item specifically to clear and maintain a southern california hillside. There was a variety of material needing to be dealt with and including: Oleander, Sumac, Palm, Acacia Cyclops, Pine, loquat, hawthorne and a few I have forgotten.
The motor is powerful and reliable. The configuration is acceptable given what the lawyers must have forced the engineers to do. You will need to prep branches so they are straight. Oleander is great because the stalks are long and thin. This thing loves to eat oleander! The Acacia Cyclops is the most challenging because the stiff branches do not easily go into the shredder hopper. It gets the job done. I am pleased with this tool.
3.) Great chipper; poor shredder

There are so many things to like about this chipper/shredder: 1)solidly built 2)reliable and powerful engine-it takes a heavy pull on the cord to start, but usually only needs one pull 3)built-in hitch to attach to a riding lawnmower 4)excellent chipper. Unfortunately the shredder design is poor-the chute for the shredder is vertical with a flat bottom and the blades located on the side. Toss a small branch in and it just sits there; mash on it with the pusher and the branch bends, but because of the flat bottom, it frequently doesn't get pushed into the blades. It is very annoying to have to mash down with the pusher 10-20 times just to get a few small branches to feed into the blades.
4.) OK, Not Great

I had this chipper/shredder for about 6 years. It is a decent machine and it shredded a lot of leaves and chipped many branches as we try to recycle all leaves and bio-materials on our 2 acre property, which has many large trees. I used it about 10X per year, maybe 20-30 hours a year total. It needed to be serviced/repaired every couple of years (~$150) and recently the blade assembly came loose and broke. Can't be repaired and replacement is $350 - not worth it, so now I'm looking for a stronger, more reliable machine. Will check out Patriot and others. Bottom line is that this is a mid-quality "in-between" machine, neither heavy duty nor light duty (like many of the electrics).

I found this product to be just "OK"! It chips twigs up to 2" in the leaf hopper just fine and the chips are great mulch. However the chute for the 3" is useless...bogs down, jams and totally ineffective. I would not recommend the product unless you have really light duty for it.
